Covered in mud on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea

I stayed on the Mount of Olives which afforded the most wonderful views of the Old City the Dome of the Rock being the outstanding site. Various churches and the Gardens of Gethsemane are situated on the Mount of Olives and it is an easy walk down - if not up - to the Old City.
I accept that I can get myself around the world easily enough but am truly hopeless at finding my way around in places a good deal of the time, once there, as my sense of direction is useless. Jerusalem, with its myriad lanes full of bazaars and narrow streets, therefore was not one of my greater successes and I should have seen more but got lost so regularly that I saw the Western Wall ( with people at prayer) three times but the Dome of the Rock proved less easy and, when I did find a way in, the mosque had been closed and the police presence wasn't letting me get close. It is a truly wonderful city, though, and I am delighted to have been and visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchere which is on the site of Jesus's crucufixion. Masada Bargaining is also part of the fun. I took little part in a verbal skirmish with one shopkeeper but listened interestedly as in two to three minutes his price for a plaque plummeted from 350 Shekels ( around £65) to 50 Shekels (£9) with no input from me.Getting a feel for the proper price, I got him down to 20 Shekels before deciding that I didn't like the piece and moved on and got a much nicer piece for the equivalent of £2.
