I moved on to Kuala Lumpur for four days & stayed in a conveniently situated but not terribly easy place to find. My atrocious sense of direction on two nights left me in complete
despair despite asking directions on many occasions: I really didn’t know that such levels of incompetence were within me but did take heart in remembering that two taxi drivers couldn’t find the place on the first night. I must say that I love the vibrancy and friendliness of K.L and would rank it as one of my favourite cities. The backdrop of the old and new from Merdeka Square is always intriguing and both the Petronas and Menara Towers dominate the already impressive skyline.
The reason for going to K.L was to see the Malaysian Grand Prix and it can be exciting due to the unpredictability of the weather. I was in one of the stands at the end of the start line and, by standing up with many others, could take some excellent photos. Very reasonably priced, the circuit laid on an autograph session on the race day

It was once again wet for the race
which I turned up for almost two hours before it began, stood in sweltering heat and got near none of the drivers! It was a nice touch but, by its very nature, a little chaotic. I was surprised that the race wasn’t better attended but the race was memorable in that it had to be started again after heavy rain and a thunderstorm brought the initial part of the race to a halt. Being able to walk around in other grandstands, after some staff presumably left their posts, showed some of the excellent views from the latter end of the Mall grandstands in a race ultimately won by Ferrari’s Alonso.
