India VS. England Third Test Highlights, Rajkot

  • Ben Stokes became the sixteenth player to play in 100 Tests for England. There have been 76 players from all countries to achieve this feat.
  • Sarfaraz Khan became the first Indian player to be run out in his debut innings after scoring fifty.
  • Sarfaraz became the fourth Indian player to register a fifty in both innings of his debut joining Dilawar Hussain, Sunil Gavaskar and Shreyas Iyer.
  • The 204-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja is India's highest for the fourth wicket against England in India. The previous highest was 190 between Mohinder Amarnath and Mohammad Azharuddin at Madras (now Chennai) in 1984-85.
  • For their seventh time in India, a completed England innings contained a century but no other score of fifty or more. The same happened at Hyderabad in the current series and another occasion was also at Rajkot, in 2016-17.
  • Ben Duckett became the sixth opener to score 150 or more for England in India. Graeme Fowler's 201 at Madras (now Chennai) in 1984-85 is the highest whilst Sir Alastair Cook's 190 at Kolkata in 2012-13 is the most recent.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin became the ninth bowler to take 500 Test wickets. He is the second Indian bowler to do so after Anil Kumble and the fifth spinner from all countries.
  • Jonny Bairstow's eighth duck against India is also England's 100th in Tests in India.
  • Ravindra Jadeja became the twelfth player, and third from India, to score 3000 Test runs and take 250 wickets. he joins Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Aswin for India.
  • Jadeja's performance in scoring a century and taking five wickets in an innings during the same Test is the seventh such occasion for India, and Jadeja's second. Ravichandran Ashwin has performed the feat three times and Vinoo Mankad and Polly Umrigar did so once.
  • The last occasion that an England side benefited from five penalty runs was at Pallekele against Sri Lanka in November 2018.
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal's runs in his first seven Tests have yielded 861, the fifth most by any player after seven Tests. Don Bradman (1196) heads the list at the same stage. Jaiswal's feat has only been bettered by one Indian player, Sunil Gavaskar (918).
  • The twelve sixes which Jaiswal hit in his second innings 214* equals Wasim Akram's record made against Zimbabwe at Sheikhupura in 1996-97. Previously, the most by an Indian player was 8, by Navjot Singh against Sri Lanka at Lucknow in 1993-94 and Mayank Agarwal against Bangladesh at Indore in 2019-20.
  • Jaiswal's innings is the second highest by an Indian opener against England with only Sunil Gavaskar's 221 at The Oval in 1979 ahead.
  • Jaiswal's innings is also the second highest by an opener in a side's second innings in India. Brendon McCullum's 225 for New Zealand against India at Hyderabad is currently top.
  • The last occasion when both Indian openers scored a century apiece against England in the same Test was at Manchester in 1936 when Vijay Merchant and Syed Mushtaq Ali scored 114 and 112 in the Indian second innings.
  • England's 434-run defeat is their heaviest by runs overseas and their second-heaviest in all Tests. Their previous worst overseas was 384 runs at Brisbane in 2002-03 whilst their worst ever 562 runs against Australia at The Oval in 1934.
  • The result is India's highest runs victory overtaking their 372-run victory over New Zealand at Mumbai in 2021-22.
  • England's second innings 122 is their fourth-lowest completed total in India. Their lowest is 81 at Ahmedabad in 2020-21.
