India VS. England Fourth Test Highlights, Ranchi

  • The six ducks made by England in the Test is their joint worst in India along with Ahmedabad in 2020-21.
  • For the fifth time in India, one team registered two pairs in the same Test. This has happened once to India (vs. England at Delhi in 1976-77); Australia (vs. India at Kolkata in 2000-01) and twice for Sri Lanka (at Chandigarh in 1990-91 when three players scored pairs and at nearby Mohali in 2021-22).
  • James Anderson's pair is his fourth in his career, joint second most shared by five other players. The record is held by New Zealand's Chris Martin (7).
  • Joe Root's 122 is his third slowest by balls in his Test career and is the slowest since the Stokes & McCullum era started.
  • Root's century is his tenth against India, the most by any player surpassing Steve Smith.
  • Ollie Robinson became the fifth England number 9 to score fifty in India following Adil Rashid (60) in 2016-17; Graeme Swann 56 in 2012-13; John Lever in 1976-77 and Graham Dilley in 1981-82.
  • Rohit Sharma became the seventeenth Indian player to score 4000 Test runs.
  • In scoring 241 runs for their last five wickets, England's first innings recovery from 112 for 5 to 353 is their best against India in India based on the loss of their fifth wicket at no more than 112. Their previous best (238) was at Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1979-80 when they reached 296 after being 58 for 5.
  • England's second innings was a different story, the loss of their last seven wickets for 35 being their joint-third worst against India. Their worst two were both at Ahmedabad in 2020-21: 31 runs in the second innings (50 for 3 to 81 all out) and 32 in the second (80 for 3 to 112 all out). They also lost their last seven wickets for 35 runs at Bombay (now Mumbai) in the second innings in 1981-82 (going from 131 for 3 to 166 all out).
  • Ravichandran Ashwin drew level with Anil Kumble with most five-wickets-in-an-innings hauls (35) by an Indian player. This places him joint fourth highest amongst all international bowlers, the list being headed by Muttiah Muralitharan with 67.
