Fourth Test Highlights England VS. India, Old Trafford
- During his innings of 150, Joe Root went from fifth in the all-time highest scorers to second surpassing Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting. Only Sachin Tendulkar now stands ahead, 2512 runs away.
- Root's thirty-eighth century equals that of Kumar Sangakkara and puts both in joint-fourth in the list of Test centuries.
- Root also became the first player to score 1000 runs at Old Trafford.
- Ben Stokes became the first England captain to score a century and take five wickets in an innings during the same Test. The only other captain to do so in England was Sir Garfield Sobers for West Indies against England at Headingley in 1966.
- Stokes became the thirteenth player to score 7000 runs for England.
- Stokes also became the eleventh England captain to register 2000 runs.
- For their second time at Old Trafford, England's top four players all passed 50. Their last such occasion there was in 1946, also against India.
- For their eleventh occasion, England recorded individual scores of 50+ by five or their first six in the batting order. Four of these were by the first five (vs. Australia at Lord's in 1926; vs. West Indies at Kingston in 1929-30 (where the first six scored 50+); vs. South Africa at Durban in 1938-39 and vs. Sri Lanka at Lord's in 2002). Numbers one to four and six passed fifty against West Indies at St. John's in 2008-09; numbers 2 to 6 against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1950-51; numbers 1 and 3 to 7 vs. Australia, also at Old Trafford, in 2023; numbers 1 to 3 and 5 to 6 vs. Pakistan at Faisalabad in 1983-84; numbers 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 vs. Australia at The Oval in 1893 and numbers 1 to 3 and 5 to 6 vs. India at Delhi in 1981-82.
- Dhruv Jurel became the second substitute wicketkeeper to make two stumpings in the same innings. Hashan Tillekeratne had performed the feat for Sri Lanka against Pakistan at Dhaka in 1998-99.
- Jurel became only the second substitute wicketkeeper to make four dismissals in the same innings. Majid Khan had done for Pakistan against West Indies at Kingston in 1976-77.
- England's 669 is their fifth-highest total with their highest remaining 903 for 7 against Australia at The Oval in 1938. It is their second highest against India behind only their 710 for 7 at Edgbaston in 2011.
- The total is also the highest at Old Trafford surpassing Australia's 656 for 8 against England in 1964.
- For their fourth time against England, four Indian bowlers conceded 100+ runs apiece in the same innings. The other occasions were at Edgbaston in 1979, Lord's in 1990 and Southampton in 2014.
- The only other occasion where an Indian side used six bowlers who all conceded 50+ runs apiece against England was at Bombay's (now Mumbai) Brabourne Stadium in 1961-62. Against all opposition, this is their sixth such occasion.
- For the first time in his Test career, Jasprit Bumrah conceded 100 runs in an innings. Previously, his most expensive analysis had been 4-99 against Australia at Melbourne in 2024-25.
- For the ninth time, an England side had four partnerships of 90+ in the same innings. The last occasion was against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi in 2015-16. They have twice had four century partnerships in the same innings (vs. Australia at The Oval in 1938 and vs. Australia at Adelaide in 2010-11)
- The last occasion that an England ninth-wicket pair added a minimum of 95 runs was at The Oval, also against India, in 2018.
- In the Indian second innings, the third-wicket partnership of 188 between Lokesh Rahul and Shubman Gill is the highest by any team after starting at 0 for 2. There have only been two century partnerships in the same circumstances: for England vs. Australia at Lord's in 1902 and for India vs. Australia at Melbourne in 1977-78.
- The closest occasion a side losing their numbers 1 and 3 for ducks with two and four both passing fifty was by New Zealand against England at Lord's in 1986.
- For the first time by any side, India's second innings contained fifty or more by the numbers 2,4,5 and 6 with numbers 1 and 3 scoring ducks. The only other comparable instance was the New Zealand & England 1986 Lord's Test mentioned above where New Zealand's number 6 also scored fifty.
- The same innings also saw only the ninth occasion of a team's four, five and six scoring centuries. Australia have done so three times with India and Pakistan doing so twice.
- The match aggregate of 1452 runs is the second highest at Old Trafford behind only the 1614, also between England and India, in 1990.
- For their first time against England, an Indian innings contained four players scoring 90 or more. They had five previous occasions of three (with four of these being in England).
- The seven 50+ scores by India is the most by an opposition side against England at Old Trafford. The previous highest was six, shared by Australia in 1993 and India in 1990.
- The twelve 50+ scores in the Test equals the record twice made at Old Trafford (England vs. Australia in 1934 & England vs. India in 1990).
- Shubman Gill ended the match with 722 runs in the series, just 10 behind Sunil Gavaskar's aggregate against West Indies in 1978-79 as the most by an Indian captain. The only other captains to have scored more for any side are Graham Gooch (752 for England vs. India in 1990) and Sir Donald Bradman (810 for Australia vs. England in 1936-37). Gill currently sits level with Sir Garfield Sobers (for West Indies vs. England in 1966) with David Gower (for England vs. Australia in 1985) level with Gavaskar.
- Gill's fourth century off the series brings him level with Bradman and Gavaskar as the most by captains
- India's second innings 425 for 4 is their second-highest total against England where their opponents have used seven bowlers, none of whom conceded 100 runs. The only higher innings was their 429 for 8 at The Oval in 1979. Between all countries, Australia's 542 against South Africa at Cape Town in 1966-67 tops the list.
- The only other innings to include three centuries, one ninety and two ducks was for England and Australia at Perth in 1986-87.
